Guadalupe C. Avalos, of Mason, passed away on Wednesday, September 9, at the age of 85. A Rosary will be held on Friday evening, September 11, at 7:00 p.m. at Mason Funeral Home. Visitation with the family will be Thursday from noon to 5 and throughout the day on Friday. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mason. Interment will follow in the Crosby Cemetery.

Survivors include six children: Ruben Avalos, Antonio Avalos, and Pat Avalos of Mason, Joe Avalos and wife Linda of Brady, Irene Morquecho of Mason and Josie Hernandez and husband Bobby of Brady, a daughter-in-law Joyce Avalos of Rockdale, a sister-in-law Simona Valdez of Mason along with 14 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. Guadalupe was preceded in death by her parents Manuel and Maria Castillo, her husband Jesus "Jesse" Avalos, a son Edward Avalos and a great-granddaughter Jessa Renay Hickman.

Guadalupe was born on February 4, 1930 in Langtry, Texas to Manuel Castillo and Maria Valle Castillo. On July 4, 1949 she married Jesus Avalos, in Mason. Guadalupe had a green thumb and could grow just about anything. She loved spending time in her garden. She liked to play bingo and the lottery and she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She was a wonderful mother and mother-in-law.
