Obituary

Gregg Allen Woerner, age 65, of Brady, Texas, passed away on December 18, 2023, after a courageous battle with cancer.  Gregg was born on October 18, 1958, to Howard and Nedra (Becker) Woerner.

Gregg attended school and graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in Baytown, Texas.  After graduation, Gregg attended Austin Community College.  Gregg worked for a period of time as a welder for Huntsman.  Gregg mastered the art of welding and traveled throughout the United States and internationally throughout his welding career.  He worked as a welder in France, Belarus, China, Papua New Guinea, and he loved telling his stories of his travels from working overseas.  For those that got to hear of these travels and tales, you received a true treat!

Gregg met the love of his life in the post office in Lohn, Texas.  It wasn't long before he married Laurie Schooley on July 26, 1997, in Mason, Texas.  They were blessed to share 26 years together.

During Covid, Gregg's work travels ended as it was time to settle down and enjoy some time close to home.  For many people, Covid was a difficult time, but this was a treasured time for both Laurie and Gregg.  They were finally together under one roof as he was no longer traveling for work.

The last few years, Gregg spent time with his Dad ranching at Pontotoc alongside Tony Velez.  The rest of his time was spent at home with Laurie and their little dog, Maddie at Brady Lake.

Gregg and Laurie shared lovingly about only having one big fight in their 26-year marriage.  They stayed up late several nights to work through some discussions and they got it done!

Gregg loved the outdoors!  He loved deer and dove hunting and he sure loved to fish!  They spent many treasured vacations at Sargent & Rockport.  Gregg also enjoyed playing the slot machines in Lake Charles, Louisiana!

Gregg was preceded in death by his mother Nedra (Becker) Escobedo and stepfather Ray Escobedo and mother-in-law Loma Schooley.

Gregg is survived by his wife, Laurie Schooley Woerner of Brady, his parents Howard and Dr. Katherine Woerner of Pontotoc, brothers Mike Woerner (Marcie) of Hardin, Brad Woerner (Cathy) of Baytown, Patrick Woerner (Emma Jacobs) of South Hampton, NY, and sister Becky Kennedy (Terence), his father-in-law Jimmy Schooley of Mason, brother-in-law Steve Schooley (Marla) of Buffalo Gap and sister-in-law Pattie Allen (Joel) of Mason and numerous nieces and nephews and many adored friends.

The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to Dr. Alyssa Rieber and Knopp #1 Nursing & Rehabilitation in Fredericksburg, Texas.
