Mrs. Grace Thompson of Mason passed away on Thursday, May 13, 2010 at the age of 93. A native of Menard, Texas, she was born on August 12, 1916 to George Stengel and Louise Jordan Stengel. Grace attended Texas Tech University (then college). At Tech she met Claude John Thompson. He was President of the Student Body and she was Secretary of the Student Body. They fell in love and were married on July 25, 1937. In later years she would serve as administrative assistant to the dean of Students at Texas Tech. After retiring, she moved back to Menard. Funeral services for Mrs. Thompson will be held on Saturday, May 15 at 2 p.m., at the First United Methodist Church in Mason with burial to follow at Rest Haven Cemetery in Menard. Visitation will be on Friday, May 14, 2010 from 5-7 p.m. at Mason Funeral Home. Survivors include one son, Claude John Thompson, Jr. (Kim) of Houston, two daughters, Toni Hurlbut (Jim) of Mason and Judy Hunter (Dick) of North Richland Hills, six grand children, ten great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, a brother Dick Stengel and a sister Dixie Bean.
