Glenn Marshall, of Mason, passed away on September 18, 2010, at the age of 92. Glenn was born on June 22, 1918 in Beckemeyer, Illinois to Mr. and Mrs. Alexander Montgomery Marshall. He graduated from high school and also attended welding school for 18 months. He would spend most of the rest of his life working with metal. He was a steel worker with the American Bridge Company until 1943 when he volunteered for service in the U.S. Navy. In the Navy he was a C.B. and saw action in both the European and Pacific Theaters of Operation. He was a true American hero. Medals he received included the Purple Heart 2 times, The European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 2 battle stars, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with 1 battle star, the Navy Meritorious Service Medal and the Expert Rifleman's Medal. He was released from active duty on December 17, 1945 having earned the rank of Gunner's Mate First Class.

After the war, Glenn returned to civilian life and worked for American Bridge Company and Guenzel Metal Products Company as a welder and foreman. Glenn also taught welding at Texas State Technical College in Harlingen. Glenn's passion was making knives, a vocation he had for 80 years. He was a Master Knife Maker and the first person inducted into the Texas Knife Maker's Hall of Fame.

On January 18, 1963 Glenn and Frances were married they were totally devoted to each other and were together for 41 years until her death in 2004. In 1981 Glenn and Frances made their home in Mason where they both became dedicated members of the First Baptist Church.

Funeral services for Mr. Marshalwill be held on Tuesday, September 21, at 10:00 a.m. in the Mason Funeral Home chapel with Pastor Chad Barnett and Pastor Gary Davel officiating. Interment with military honors provided by the U.S. Navy and the local American Legion Post followed in the Gooch Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Monday from 4 to 6 p.m. at Mason Funeral Home.
