Glenn George Capps, 52 years of age, died in his home on December 25, 2016 after a thirty-year battle with multiple sclerosis. George was brilliant, witty, charming, and brave and inspired everyone lucky enough to have known him. Even as he faced several life threatening challenges in the last six weeks of his life his courage, dignity, grace, sense of humor, and zest for life did not waver.

George was born in Galveston, Texas on June 22, 1964 to Glenn Rupe Capps and Ann Schlesselman Capps. He was the grandson of Glenn James Capps and Henri Rupe Capps of Mason and George W. "Skipper" and Gwendolyn Basler Schlessselman of College Station. George was baptized at St. Thomas Chapel in College station on October 25, 1964 and he was confirmed at St. George's Episcopal Church in Austin. He grew up in Austin, Texas but spent many happy summer days at his grandparents' home in Mason and loved to fish in the Llano River. His love for Mason was life-long, and he chose Mason as the site of his wedding in 2006.

George was a kind and generous man who was admired and beloved by all who met him. He always was ready to help anyone, including complete strangers. George's natural charm and indomitable spirit endeared him to the nurses who cared for him in the last weeks of his life. Although multiple sclerosis mercilessly inflicted ever more indignities on him, George continued to appreciate life and to become wiser and kinder.

George is survived by his wife, Martha Zuniga, his mother, Ann Schlesselman Capps, sister Nancy Brooks Capps, aunts Sally Capps and Gail Pate, uncle Francis Pate, cousins Sara Gail Cranford, Betsy Droddy, and Frank Pate, and their children, and numerous Zúñiga family in-laws and dear friends, all of whose lives he enriched immeasurably. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Shared Adventures (http://sharedadventures.org/), a non-profit organization that provides recreational opportunities to disabled persons. Shared Adventures enabled George to enjoy ocean kayaking even after becoming quadriplegic and for this he was deeply grateful.

A memorial service will be held in Mason on Saturday, April 1, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Martin's Episcopal Church in Mason (corner of Willow St. and Austin St.). Interment of ashes will follow in the Old Gooch Cemetery.
