Gertrudis Ruiz Tovar, 86, of Fredonia, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her daughters and husband on Thursday, October 19, 2023. Tula was born on November 14, 1936 in San Buenaventura Coahuila, Mexico to Felix Ruiz and Francisca Rocha.

On July 31st, 1961 she married the love of her life Gabriel Tovar, whom they shared 62 loving years together. After their marriage, they made Texas their home to settle and grow a family. Tula was a very loving mother, and grandmother. She cared deeply about her family and loved them with all her heart. She was well known for her cooking, and her gardening skills. Anyone who knew Tula knew how strong she was in her faith, and how involved she was at the church.

She is preceded in death by her parents Felix Ruiz and Francisca Rocha, four sisters and four brothers. She is survived by her husband Gabriel Tovar, and her children, Joe Gabriel Tovar and wife Dora, Maria Medrano and husband Robert, and Linda Tovar and wife Tammie, her grandchildren Gabriel Lee Tovar, Callista Caswell, Monica Murray, Cristina Medrano, and Tiani Finn, and her great grandchildren Theodore and Winston Tovar, and her most beloved dog, Frijolito.

Visitation with the family will be held on Friday, October 20 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Mason Funeral Home. The Rosary will follow visitation at 7:00.  Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at 1:30 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
