Obituary

Gerda Mathilde Lehmann Kothmann, 94, of Mason, died on Dec. 16, 2013 at Concho Health & Rehab Center, Eden, TX. Services will held at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Mason, TX on Friday, December 20 at 2 P.M. With Rev. Tim Scheffel officiating. Rev. Scott Hofmann will be the lector, Dru Bearden is the organist and Carolyn Loeffler the soloist. Burial will follow in Gooch Cemetery. Visitation with the family is Thursday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at Mason Funeral Home.

Gerda was born, Oct. 30, 1919, to William and Rebecka Rode Lehmann, in Gillispie County, in a Sunday House built by her Grandfather Rode. She was raised in the Loyal Valley community in Mason County. On August 22, 1940, she married Lansing Kothmann, a local rancher. They lived near the banks of the Llano River and there enjoyed the beauty of the Hill Country.

In addition to being a rancher's wife and raising a family, Gerda was talented and creative in her decorating of wedding cakes, sewing, cooking (especially homemade bread), growing flowers, and whatever she put her mind to do. She enjoyed sharing the story of her father Willie and his brother Herman, who were captured by the Apache Indians when they were boys. Gerda's passion in life was living as she felt her Lord wanted and she showed this in the Love she shared with all those she encountered.
Gerda also worked for approximately 30 years at Mason Auction Company.
Gerda was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lansing, a daughter Carol Ann, two half brothers, Maurice and Gus Lehmann and two half sisters, Alma Ziriax and Agusta Hofmann.

She is survived by a sister, Esther Lehmann of Fredericksburg; a daughter, Betty (Leon) Thane of San Angelo; a son, Lester (Cindy) Kothmann of Mason; four grandchildren, Joseph(Gayla) Thane of New Braunfels, Leslie (Ron) Young of Burleson, Crystal (Tom) Kinney of Marble Falls, and Lee Kothmann of Buda; great-grandchildren, Brandon (Lindsey), Tara, Ember, Katie, Garrett and Tyler; and one great-great granddaughter, Addison.

Pallbearers are Scott Hofmann, Bruce Lehmberg, Alan Kothmann, Lee Kothmann, David Reitz, Joseph Thane, Pat Ziriax and Tim Ziriax. Honorary pallbearers are Keese Kothmann, Jerry Lehmann, M. J. Lehmann and Charles Loeffler.
