In Loving Memory

Georgie Reed Schmidt, at age 91 passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of her family.

Born on November 28, 1934, in Brownsville, Texas, Georgie spent her childhood there before following her heart and eloping with the love of her life, Emmit Schmidt, to Matamoros, Mexico. Together they made their homes in Mason, New Braunfels and Bandera, Texas. They spent their 65 years together centering their lives on faith, family, and ranching.

Georgie was a woman of many talents and had a tireless work ethic. Throughout her life she worked in several professions, as a receptionist, an insurance adjuster, but the job she cherished most was serving as the head cook at the Dixie Dude Ranch. Whether preparing meals for ranch guests or cooking for family gathered around her table, she had a gift for making people feel cared for through her food and hospitality.

Ranching was woven into the fabric of Georgie's life. She worked cattle alongside her father in her younger years and later with her husband, embracing the challenges and rewards of ranch life with determination and grit.

A faithful member of St. Peter's Church in Doss, Texas, Georgie lived her faith through kindness, generosity, and the example she set for those around her. She found joy in tending her garden, expressing her creativity through painting, and preparing meals for the people she loved.  She was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, spending years researching and discovering her ancestry and fostering patriotism.

Above all else, Georgie treasured her family. Nothing brought her greater happiness than spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She delighted in the laughter of children and created a home filled with warmth, love, and lasting memories. Georgie had a real knack for making a house a home.

Those who knew Georgie will remember her as feisty yet endlessly kind, lighthearted, faithful, and optimistic. She had a wonderful sense of humor, never took life too seriously, and always seemed to know just the right words to offer. Her wisdom, encouragement, and unwavering love will continue to guide her family for generations to come.

Georgie's legacy is one of resilience, compassion, faith, and joy. She lived a full and meaningful life, leaving behind a family strengthened by her love and countless friends who were blessed to know her. Though she will be deeply missed, her spirit lives on in the stories shared around family tables, the beauty of blooming gardens, the traditions she passed down, and the lives she touched so profoundly.

Georgie is preceded in death by her husband Emmit, her son Emmit "Butch" Schmidt Jr, her parents Wallace and Etta Reed Jr, her brother Wallace "Manny" Reed III, and her nephew Roberto Reed Blankenship.

She is survived by her daughter Deborah Keiter, her grandchildren Loren Reynolds, Sorrel Schmidt, Ray Lee Hutcheson, Korbi Keiter and Great Grandchildren Max and Vivian Reynolds, Hayzee, Hank and Feleena Hutcheson and her sister Martha (Craig) Persons.

Visitation with the family will be held Monday, July 6 from 5 – 7 at Mason Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Doss, Tx. with burial to follow.
