Franklin Edward Habecker, Sr. of Mason, formerly of Pflugerville, was born February 18th, 1936 in Kerrville to Viola Seiter and Emil Habecker. Frank was happily married to Jeannie Freeman Habecker for 43 years until she earned her heavenly reward in 2007. In 2008, Frank married Helen Meyer Schmidt Habecker, who blessed both him and his family's lives immensely during the past six years. Oma Helen will forever hold a special place in our hearts.
At the age of 18, Frank went to work for the Texas Highway Department in road construction. He took pride in owning his own business, where he took on many projects in the Austin area, including the Balcones Country Club and major highways. In Mason, he dug many tanks, prepared several foundation pads, and paved numerous country roads with his beloved red gravel. Frank also had his pilot's license and owned a small private airplane. In his later years, he owned a gravel pit and delivered gravel and boulders all around the Hill Country.
Frank enjoyed hunting, fishing, working in his garden, and spending time with family. He was a proud supporter of the Mason Punchers and found joy in going to football games and other community events. The Punchers play on a level field with good drainage thanks to Frank. He was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Mason, where he frequently played the piano and organ, including pieces that were original compositions. Frank was known to be strong-willed and full of life, and many of his greatest moments were spent sitting around the living room engaging in lively conversation and debates with his friends and loved ones. His favorite topics of debate were politics, freedom, and gun rights. During his lifetime, he was a Scout Master, a founding member of the Pflugerville Lions Club, a lifelong honorary member of FFA, and an avid supporter of the Mason County Livestock Show. He enjoyed helping his children raise show animals and had a love for all things related to agriculture.
Frank is preceded in death by his parents Viola and Emil, his wife Jeannie, and son Jimmy Habecker. He is survived by his wife Helen, sons Andy Habecker, Barney Habecker and wife Jenny, Rick Habecker and wife Christy, Frankie Habecker and wife Debra, Chris Habecker and wife Anissa, daughters LeEster Burch, Terri Blank and husband Ken. Upon Frank and Helen's marriage, our families grew to a combined total of eleven children, dozens of grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren with a few more on the way.
Visitation will be Sunday, December 21st from 4-7pm at Mason Funeral Home. A celebration of Frank's life will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Mason at 10am Monday, December 22, with Pastor Timothy Scheffel officiating. Burial will follow at St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery in Doss.
