Florene Hofmann, of Mason, passed away on Tuesday, October 12, at the age of 84. Florene was born on July 24, 1926 at Katemcy in Mason County to Alvin Eckert and Alma (Jordan) Eckert. She attended school at Peter's Prairie and graduated from Mason High School. On September 30, 1947 she married Jack Francis Hofmann. They were together for 62 years until his death in November of 2009. Jack and Florene made their home at the Hofmann Ranch near Streeter. They were co-owners of Hofmann Dry Goods Company which they operated until its closing in 2000. They were also co-owners of the Mason Warehouse Association and they ranched together.
Florene was a member of the Mason Tennis Association, a charter member of Riata Service Organization and the only member to be active for all 60 years, the First United Methodist Church of Mason, Women of the Methodist Church and a former member of the Mason County Chamber of Commerce. She loved to play and watch tennis, was an avid reader and enjoyed helping others. Florene was known for her straightforward manner and her kind heart. She enjoyed hunting one day a year and loved to bake.
Florene is survived by her son Rex Hofmann and wife Martha Ruiz of Houston, and a sister Aloise Kuykendall of Midland. In addition to her husband, Florene was preceded in death by a sister Lucille Leach.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 15 at 1:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Mason with Rev. Tim Fahrenthold officiating. Serving As pallbearers will be Antonio Chavez,, Terry McMillan, Bob Brandenberger, Charles Hoerster, Rob Hofmann, Jacob Tallent and Jerry Smith. Honorary pallbearer is Bill Bob Tallent. Private interment will follow at the Hofmann Ranch. Visitation with the family will be Thursday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. at Mason Funeral Home.
