Fidensio "Fred" Zavala, of Fredericksburg, passed away on Saturday, April 15, at the age of 77. Mr. Zavala is survived by his wife Juanita "Jane" Zavala of Fredericksburg, a son Michael Zavala and wife Jennifer of Fredericksburg, two daughters Debbie Rodriguez and husband A. Javier of Fredericksburg and Naomi Urie and husband Doug of Kerrville. He is also survived by seven grandchildren Eric Silerio and wife Kimberlee, Jonathon Rodriguez, Andrea Rodriguez, Cassandra Cummings and husband Brian, Korey Zavala, Kyle Zavala and john Michael Valadez, two great-grandchildren Kash Silerio and Braxton Silerio along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Fred was born on September 25, 1939 in Brownfield, Texas to Pablo Zavala and Lupe Lopez Ortega. He moved to Mason in 1955 and in 1959 he married Juanita "Jane" Castillo at the First Baptist Church in Mason. Fred owned and operated Zavala's Restaurant for 26 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and was a member of the Mason Volunteer Fire Department for many years.
Visitation with the family will be Monday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. at Mason Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 18, at 3:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Mason with Pstor Art Nelms leading the service. Interment will follow in the Gooch Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Eric Silerio, Jonathon Rodriguez, Korey Zavala, Kyle Zavala, Danny Dominguez, Henry Dominguez, John Michael Valadez and Joaquin Velez. Honorary pallbearers are Terry Kesse, Jerry Kruse, Andrea Rodriguez, Cassandra Cummings, Jimmy Scripps, A Javier Rodriguez, Doug Urie and Fermin Silerio Jr.
