Obituary

Eula Mae Martin told her family and friends that she was going to have a "miracle"…her body would be healed, no more pain. She would stand in a field of white flowers before her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. On Monday, October 15, 2018 she heard "Eula Mae, work is finished, come home. It's supper time". She got her miracle!

Eula Mae was born on August 23, 1936 in Waller, Texas, the eighth of ten children to James Wesley Sr. and Sallie Hoover. She was still young when the family moved to Lockhart. She attended and graduated from school. Her family attended Clearfork Baptist Church. She loved to sing those old gospel songs. She made a profession of faith in Jesus and was baptized. The front porch of the homeplace was often the stage for singing and acting. She taught herself how to yodel. She was a farmer's daughter and mother's helper.

Years later she moved to Junction. She worked in the hospital and had a kindergarten school. A lot of her students who have successful lives and careers have kept in touch through the years.

She met "the love of her life" a peanut farmer from Mason named Nathaniel Martin. They were married and she moved to Mason. Their lives were about being together…working in the fields, taking care of livestock, going to Ruidoso New Mexico, going on Hillbilly Hits tours with Tracy Pitcox, and dancing…How they loved to dance. They would usually have music going in the house and he'd go in the kitchen when she was cooking, grab her hands covered with batter and flour and dance around the kitchen. Then they would be at the supper table after working all day, look up and one would say "Wanna go dancing?" Clean up and away they went.

They were together as he fought the cancer. On June 8, 2000, they hugged and kissed for the last time on this earth. Now they are dancing again to the "Cotton Eyed Joe".

She is preceded in death by husband Nathaniel Clay Martin, grandson Jacob Clay Nail, her parents, 5 brothers, 3 sisters and aunts and uncles. Those to share her memory are son Clyde Martin (Kelly), daughter Cheryl Nail (Elba). Grandsons Josh Nail (Kim), Thad Martin, Thain Martin (Morgan), Thach Martin (Ravyn), great-grandkids Breana Nail, Mickey Nail, Nathaniel Nail, Jack Nail, Nevaeh Martin, Adley Martin, Ty Martin, Shayde Martin, Ian Martin, and baby 2019, and sister Dorothy Reed of Lockhart, and many wonderful nephews and nieces.

Eula Mae may not have been rich in world standards, but when it came to family and friends, she was a very wealthy, special lady!
