Obituary

Elaine Eckert, of Mason, passed away on Wednesday, December 26, at the age of 87. Mrs. Eckert is survived by her children Kris Eckert and wife Holly of Mason and Barbara Sladek and husband Larry of Taylor, a brother Leo Friday and a sister Gloria Jean Avant and husband J. C. along with 3 grandchildren: Chad Eckert and wife Krystal, Cole Eckert, Justin Sladek and wife Courtney and 2 great-grandchildren: Tara Kaye Sladek and Tallon Wesley Eckert. She was preceded in death by her husband Louis Wesley Eckert and the following brothers and sisters: Jessie Cogburn, Inez Carter, Ross Friday, Gertrude Lange, Velera Smith, Albert Friday and Kenneth Friday.

Elaine was born and raised in Louisiana. After World War II she moved to Mason where her sister Gertrude had moved. She worked in Jack Lee's Law office and shortly after moving to Mason she met Louis Eckert on a blind date. They fell in love and were married in 1950.

Elaine was a homemaker and she loved to garden and cook and can the bounty of her garden. She also sewed for her family and for the public. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and worked with the Children's Choir for many years. She also sang in the Church Choir. Elaine enjoyed playing 42 and going to San Angelo. She loved to fish and camp, but her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Visitation with the family will be Saturday afternoon from 4 to 6 p.m. at Mason Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held Sunday, December 30, at 2:30 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Mason. Interment will follow in the Gooch Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers are Justin Sladek, Chad Eckert, Cole Eckert, Mike Probst, Charles Carter and dean Eckert.

Memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church, London Volunteer Fire Department or to Hill Country Memorial Hospice in Fredericksburg.
