Effie Lorene
Haines Dunlap
Apr 2, 1930 — Mar 22, 2019
Effie Lorene Haines Dunlap passed away at her home surrounded by her family on Friday, March 22, at the age of 88. She was born at home in a small rock house in western Mason County on April 2, 1930. Her parents were Lee Burt Haines Sr.and Effie A. Gray Haines. She attended school at Peters Prairie and graduated from Mason High School.
On March 14, 1951 Lorene married J.W. "Jimmy" Dunlap Jr. at the First United Methodist Church in Mason. Lorene and Jimmy were married on the same day and the same time as her parents. They made their home in Austin and they lived there until his death in 2010. After Jimmy's death, Lorene moved to their property in Mason County.
Lorene was a very loving person and she worked hard to take care of her family; watching over loved one's in their old age and letting other family members room and board with her and Jimmy while they attended college. It was also well known that if you left her house hungry it was your own fault. If you stopped by she was always ready to prepare a meal or snack for you. She was a great cook and was especially known for her "Aunt Zula's" cake icing.
She was raised in the country and she never lost her love for life in the country. She enjoyed hunting for topaz, thrashing and picking up pecans or any reason to be outside where she could enjoy the fresh air, enjoy nature, listen to her wind chimes and work with her flowers.
Lorene is survived by her sons Jim Dunlap and wife Teresa of Port Lavaca, Greg Dunlap of Mason, two granddaughters Tanya Dimak and husband Greg of Port Lavaca and Renee Wood and husband Everett of Port Lavaca, three great-grandchildren: Mason Wood, Wimberly Wood and Isabella Dimak and three brothers: Andrew Haines and wife Iva Mae of Salado, Edward Haines and wife Alene of Fairacres, New Mexico and L.B. Haines and wife Debbie of Mason. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jimmy and her brother Raymond L. Haines.
Visitation with the family will be Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Mason Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 26, at 2:00 p.m. at Mason Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Bethel Cemetery at Camp Air. Following the interment everyone is invited to the Peters Prairie School House for refreshments and a time to share memories with the family. Serving as pallbearers are Everett Wood, Gregory Dimak, Lee Haines, John Haines, Rex Smith and Ted Lee. Honorary pallbearers are Mason Wood, Wimberly Wood, Isabella "Izzie" Dimak, Jack Mayberry, Charles Puryear, Ken Wallace Diane Wallace, Curt and Cheryl Simons and Carol Jones.
The family would like to thank Connie and Rex Smith, L.B. and Debbie Haines, Carol Jones and Hill Country Memorial Hospice for the loving care they provided. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Hill Country Memorial Hospice.
