Obituary

At 87, Ed passed away peacefully at his home near Mason, Texas on August 29th, 2024, among family and friends.

Ed was born August 9th, 1937, in Del Rio. He cherished spending part of his youth on his family's ranch near Brackettville. Ed graduated college in San Marcos where he met the love of his life, Ceverene Sorenson. They married July 21st, 1962, and raised their daughters near Driftwood.

Spending much of his career with the IRS, Ed ensured the refund checks were right and on time. After retirement, he became a Mason and then a Shriner. Through the Ben Hur Shrine of Austin, Ed met many of his greatest friends. He also made some of his greatest memories, regularly performing with his miniature car in countless parades as a "Lizzyteer."

In 2016, Ed and Ceverene left Driftwood to be closer to their family near Mason. He was known for his discerning taste in "real" country music, proficiency in smoking authentic Texas beef brisket, and excelling at being a husband, a father, a Shriner, and a Te

Ed is survived by Ceverene Lackey, his wife of 62 years, along with his daughters, Dianna (JL) Wilkins of Rapid City, South Dakota and Laura (Stevie Ray) Hansen of Pontotoc. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Melba and Carolyn Lackey, as well as extended family including his niece and nephew, cousins, and many more loved ones through marriage. Ed's previously departed loved ones include his brothers, Bill and Carlton Lackey, along with his parents, W.C. "Clem" Lackey & Iva Bain.

Ed's family will hold a celebration of life on Monday, September 9th at 2:00pm at River of Life Church in Mason. Ed wished that any charitable donations in remembrance of his life be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children.
