Obituary

Edward (Eddie) Simon, age 94, passed away peacefully at New Haven Assisted Living in Kyle, Texas, on November 14, 2018. He was born to Frank Simon and Mary Gerdes Simon Chunn in Mason, Texas on October 6, 1924.

He attended school at Grossville and Mason until enlisting, at the age of 17, in the U. S. Navy on August 18, 1942. He served on the U.S.S. Nevada BB36 Battleship from October 1942 through June 1945 as a gun pointer. He saw action at the Attu Invasion, D Day at the Normandy invasion, the invasion of Southern France, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa. He was honorably discharged on December 8, 1945. He returned to the family ranch near Todd Mountain in Mason, and on June 1, 1947 married Carolyn Engdahl of East Sweden, Texas. Leaving Mason in 1952, he worked both domestic and foreign in aircraft repair seeing service throughout the USA and in Viet Nam, Iran, Egypt, Panama, and elsewhere. On February 22, 1974 he married Nhuan Pham in Viet Nam.

His parents, and brothers, Frank and Damon, preceded him in death. He is survived by daughters Gwen Kirk (TJ) of Creedmore, Tx, Roxana Weaver (Douglas) of Canyon Lake, Tx, and Rosemary Soviero (James) of Ocean, NJ, and son, Kinney Edward Simon (Sheila) of San Marcos, Tx; grandchildren, Shane, Jesse, and Susie Kirk, Heath and Sean Simon, Kevin Weaver, Krista Stippich, and Meleana Soviero; great-grandchildren, Avry and August Kirk, Mason and Everleigh Weaver, Jennings and Elena Simon, Emma and Sawyer Simon, and Elenor Stippich; niece Mary Simon and nephews David and Keith Simon.

Edward's life will be celebrated at the Simon Cemetery at Todd Mountain on Saturday, November 17 at 2:00 p.m.  Military honors will be provided by the Mason County VFW/American Legion.

Serving as Pallbears are the grandsons and sons-in-law.
