Doris Simon, of Mason, passed away on Thursday, June 21, at the age of 74. Mrs. Simon is survived by four sons: DeWayne Simon and wife Sheri of Mason, Robby Simon and wife Kimberly of Mason, Kenny Simon of Lake Buchanan and Corey Simon and wife Candice of Liberty Hill, 9 grandchildren: Wesley Simon and wife Kaley, Casey Simon and wife Tiffany, Cody Simon and wife Sharon, Tina Jordan and husband Brendan, Bradley Simon and wife Chelsea, Zane Simon, Ashlyn Simon, Ryan Wilson and Alyssa Wilson, 7 great-grandchildren and a sister-in-law Joanie Doyal. Doris was preceded in death by her brother Troy Doyal and her husband Claude Simon.
Doris was born on January 6, 1944 to Chester Doyal and Irene Wartenbach Doyal. She was a graduate of Mason High School. Doris married Claude Simon and they lived in the Austin area before moving back to Mason in 1977. They made their home along the Llano River where they enjoyed having friends and family and especially children come and visit.
In Austin Doris worked as a school bus driver and then in Mason worked as a care giver for the elderly. She enjoyed hunting and fishing with her sons and was a wonderful grandmother and great-grandmother. Doris was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Mason. In her spare time she loved being around her friends visiting and playing cards, especially with "Tuffy" and "Poss". Her family also fondly remembers the wonderful pickles and cheesecake that she made.
Funeral services for Doris Simon will be held on Sunday, June 24, at 4:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Mason. Interment will follow in the Gooch Cemetery. There will not be any visitation prior to the service, but family and friends are invited back to the Fellowship Hall at the First Baptist Church for food and fellowship after the interment at Gooch Cemetery.
