Obituary

Donna Jean Raley was born on July 29, 1941, in Anson, TX. Donna went to be with her Lord and Savior on May 10, 2024, in Abilene, TX. She was surrounded by her family as she passed away peacefully at her home. Working as a soda jerk, Donna (17) met her husband James (18) at Edwards Heights Pharmacy in Big Spring. They were married six months later, on August 1, 1959, at College Baptist Church. The Raleys had their first child, Ricky, in Big Spring before moving to Wichita Falls where they welcomed their next two children, Chris and Danna. Later, they moved to Austin where their youngest, Mitch, was born. From Austin, they moved to Midland where the family joined Crestview Baptist Church and Donna met her love of Christ, and bowling, at the age of 30. Donna had a knack for bowling, throwing a perfect game a time or two. She was also a talented artist, sharing that passion and skill with her mother-in-law, Mary ("Too Too") throughout their shared years. Today, much of Donna and Too Too's beautiful artwork adorns the homes of their loved ones. Donna spent over 60 years loving and raising her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She taught them all the grace of God and the power of the Holy Spirit even as she battled chronic pain from numerous diseases. She instilled a competitiveness in the family that resulted in years of spirited rummy and domino games…where she always seemed to have the final word on what the 'real rules' were. Those of us who have survived her are joyful to know that Donna has once again beat us, this time at the game of life.

Donna is preceded in death by her siblings Evelyn and Dairl, and her son Ricky. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, James; her son, Chris Raley and his wife Blinda; her daughter, Danna Reeves and her husband Lee; her son, Mitch Raley and his wife Heather; many grandchildren; and even more great-grandchildren.
