Donald Stewart Boyd, age 86 of Art, TX passed peacefully into the loving arms of his savior on Sunday, April 28, 2019 at his home on the Llano River with his wife and daughter at his side.

Don, as he was commonly known, was born in Hammond, Indiana, to the late John Lynn Boyd and Louise Stewart Sanger.  He was the youngest of their two children and preceeded in death by his brother Dennis.

Don graduated as Salutatorian of the Hammond Technical-Vocational High School Class of 1950, then went to the University of Perdue (IN) followed by the University of Tulsa (OK) where he completed his B.S. in Aeronautical Engineering in 1955.  He later went to Southern Methodist University in Dallas where he earned his M.S. in Aeronautical Engineering in 1961.  He put his education to good use over the years primarily at McDonald Douglas Aircraft and later in life at Bell Helicopter Textron, from which he retired in1996.

While still at TU he met and married, Miss Margie Lee Welch of Harvey, IL on October 16, 1954 at the Harvey Christian Church.  It was with his loving wife that he made a life over the next 64 years that would take them back and forth across this country making homes in Oklahoma, Missouri, Pennsylvania, and multiple locations in Texas before fulfilling a life long dream to live on waterfront acreage. It was here in Art, at his home on the Llano River, that he spent the last 20-plus years of his life taking in the beauty of the river, the night sky, and growing old with the love of his life.

Along the way he enjoyed traveling to many state and foreign countries almost as much as he enjoyed working with his hands.  He was known for his willingness to design, build, and fix almost anything using a variety of mediums.  Most often he worked with wood, leather, and sheet metal; all of which he was quite skilled in using and it brought him a great sense of accomplishment when a project was finished.  He was never one to tell of his own abilities, but was always willing to jump in and tackle a project when he knew of something to be done.  Only the advancement of time was able to stop him from continuing to pursue all of the activities he loved and in his later years he traded travel for the simplicity of conversation with his loving wife as they watched the river run past their home.

Don is survived by his wife, Margie of Art, daughter Laura Strobel of North Richland Hills, TX, as well as granddaughters Danielle Strobel Jr and Rebecca Strobel.

Visitation will be Thursday, May 2 ^nd from 5pm-7pm at Mason Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held Friday, May 3 ^rd at the Art United Methodist Church at 10am. Interment will be after the service at the Gooch Cemetery.
