Danny Smith of Mason, Tx passed away on April 5, at the age of 93. Danny Mac Smith, the eldest of 7 children, was born on December 9, 1932, to parents Elmer Taylor Smith and Willie Madge (King) Smith in Edom, Texas.

After graduation from Diboll High School, he joined the United States Air Force on March 13, 1951. Danny was assigned to Ft. Bliss, Texas and Westover AFB, MA before being shipped to Okinawa, Japan for 2 year

Danny was introduced to Florence Brandenberger on a blind date in 1956 and they were married that year on December 1. To them were born two children; first came daughter Karen and then 2 years later their son Glenn completed the family.

In 1961 the United States government shipped the family to Seville, Spain for 3 years. After 2 years back in the USA, they were once again sent across the ocean for a tour of duty to Wiesbaden, Germany for 3.5 years. While living there, they travelled extensively, visiting several countries. They lived on the economy and Karen and Glenn became fluent in the German language for that region. While living in Germany, Danny was initiated into the Masonic Lodge.

Once they returned to the USA, they settled in McQueeney, TX. Danny was stationed at Brooks AFB in San Antonio and remained there for the remainder of his military career. While there he oversaw the Vivarium caring for various animals from rodents to baboons for scientific experiments.

Danny chose to retire on 8/31/75 after nearly 25 years of honorable active service

Danny and Florence eventually retired to Florence's birthplace in Hilda, Tx. They loved to hook up their travel trailer and hit the road, even making it to Alaska, Branson, MO, and several other states along the way.

They were active in their community being members of the Mason Historical Society, Eastern Star, and with Hilda UMC.

Danny is survived by his loving wife Florence of 69 years. His 2 children, Karen and husband Phil Chapman of Mason, son Glenn and wife Pamela of Spring, Tx. Grandchildren: Taylor Garrett and wife Cristina (Juanita, Ella) of Tucson, Az, Emily Garrett (Kason, Preston, Xavier, Xander) of San Antonio, TX, Katherine Smith of Austin, TX, Gillian Smith of San Antonio, TX, Nicole Etheridge (Chapman) and husband Garrett of Pipe Creek, TX, Tyler Chapman, wife Kalie and family of Ft. Worth, Tx, and nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his brothers, Jerry and Billy and sister Lynda.

Danny was preceded in death by his parents Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Taylor Smith, mother and father-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Brandenberger, sisters Virginia, and Venyta, and brother Gary, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Services will be held at Hilda UMC on Saturday, April 25 at 2pm, with internment following at the Hilda cemetery.
