Consuelo Mendoza Martinez, of Mason, passed away on Thursday, April 16, at the age of 75. She was born in Acuna, Mexico on July 27, 1939 to Ramon Mendoza and Manuela Gonzales.

Consuelo came to the United States when she was 15. In 1960 she married Casimiro Martinez in Memphis Texas in a Civil Ceremony. They moved to Mason and raised their family here. In 1968 their marriage vows were renewed at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mason. Consuelo was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed listening to music, going to the park, visiting with friends and dancing with her husband. She was a great cook and was known for the wonderful arros y pollo (chicken and rice) that she made and also for her corn and flour tortillas that she made by hand.

Mrs. Martinez is survived by her husband Casimiro Martinez, of Mason, 3 daughters Rose Rodriguez and husband Santiago, Rebecca Martinez and Romie Castillo all of Mason, a sister Sara Duarte, of Mason, 12 grandchildren: Santiago Rodriguez III and wife Fran, Stephanie Rodriguez, Cayla Rodriguez, Joshua Berreles and wife Rebecca, Vincent Martinez and fiancé Victoria Miser, Miranda Berreles, Casandra Castillo and Francisco Rodriguez, Cathleen Castillo, Alejandro "Hondo" Martinez, Rudy Martinez Jr., Maria Martinez and Toby Sanchez, 6 great-grandchildren: Nicolas Rodriguez, Nathan Rodriguez, Natalie Rodriguez, Noah Rodriguez, Gavin Martinez and Bryson Rey Rodriguez. She was preceded in death by a son Rudy Martinez in 2009.

A Rosary will be held on Sunday, April; 19, at 6:00 p.m. at Mason Funeral Home. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, April 20, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mason. Burial will follow in the Crosby Cemetery.

Serving a pallbearers are Santiago Rodriguez III, Rudy Martinez Jr., Joshua Berreles, Vincent Martinez, Cathleen Castillo and Stephanie Rodriguez. Honorary pallbearers are all of her nephews.
