Charles Milton Dowell Sr., known lovingly to family and friends as "Chipper," passed away on June 15, 2026, in San Antonio, Texas, after a courageous seven-year battle with cancer. He was 73 years old. Born on April 29, 1953, in Houston, Texas, to the late Walter and Melba Dowell, Chipper lived a full and vibrant life defined by hard work, deep love, and an unwavering devotion to those around him.

Chipper began his career with the Houston Fire Department before moving to Port Lavaca and starting at Formosa Plastics Corporation, where he served as a Systems Operator for 33 years. Beyond his professional life, Chipper was a true Texas cowboy at heart. He was a rancher, a cattleman, and a rice farmer who found purpose and peace working the land. Whether he was tending cattle and horses, heading out on a hunting or fishing trip, or simply enjoying good food and a good beverage with the people he loved, Chipper embraced every moment with enthusiasm and gratitude.

On October 9, 1993, Chipper married the love of his life, Toi Dowell, and together they built a home grounded in love and togetherness. Those who knew Chipper knew a man who never met a stranger, who was the life of every gathering, and who could be counted on without question. He was dependable, steadfast, and fiercely devoted to his family, including his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, all of whom held a cherished place in his heart. Above all, Chipper loved the Lord and carried his faith quietly and faithfully throughout his life.

Chipper is survived by his beloved wife, Toi Dowell; his son, Charles Dowell Jr.(Carolina); his daughters, Angela Phelps(Glenn) and Darbi Thompson(James); his sisters, Pam Janke and Lori Strong(Ron); his brothers, Walter "Buddy" Dowell Jr. and Tommy Dowell; his grandchildren, Jaxon Maikoetter, Emma Dowell, Shoei Hammer(Anthony), and Chandler Enamorado(Hugo), Melba Thompson and Sadie Thompson; his great-grandchildren Kayden Stratmann, Locklyn Hammer, Asher Hammer, Whitlee Enamorado, Elijah Enamorado, and Oliver Enamorado; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Melba Dowell, and by James Reed Maikoetter.

Funeral services will be held Monday, June 29th at First Baptist Church in Port Lavaca. Visitation will begin at 12:00 p.m., with the service to follow at 1:00 p.m. A reception will be held following the service.
