Carla Gwyn VanDoran Ake, age 82, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2024. She was born on September 13, 1941, in Amarillo, Texas to her mother Florence VanDoran and father Bob VanDoran. She married Robert Matthew Ake on April 1, 1966  (58 years of blissful marriage).

She is survived by her loving husband, Robert;  son Christopher Wayne Ake and his wife Christy of Mason, Texas; her son Kelly Reubin Ake and his wife Tiffany of Mason, Texas; son John Robert Ake of Denton, Texas; her brother Dusty VanDoran and wife Teri of Amarillo, Texas and brother Bobby VanDoran and wife Alice of Round Rock, Texas. She also survived by her grandchildren Courtney Ake, Kenzie Ake, Kyleigh Ake, and Jax Ake all of Mason and great grandchildren Caden Crouch of Brock, Texas, Cora Biddy and Collins Anderson of Mason, Texas.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Florence and Bob VanDoran and her grandson Wesley Cracker Crouch.

Carla  was a loving and devoted wife of 58 years to her lifelong dance partner and road trip companion. Back in the day, they would spend time camping  at the river, taking road trips on motorcycles, vacation trips to the mountains. She was an immensely proud grandmother (aka Gmaw or Grandma) of her three granddaughters, her two grandsons and three great grandchildren. She loved to spend any time at all with her children. Carla's true passion was sewing and learning to master the newest  sewing machines and collecting new fabrics and designs. Her sewing creations were of perfection and beauty. Carla enjoyed their family reunions with good cooking, good fellowship, and good music and dancing.

Visitation will be Friday June 7th 5:00-7:00pm at the Mason Funeral Home. Service will be held on Saturday June 8th at 10:00 am at the Mason Funeral Home. The burial will be at Gooch Cemetery in Mason immediately following the funeral service.

Pallbearers are Doug Crouch, Jody Ake, Roudy Ake, J.J. Ake, Bradly Ake, Jordan McBee, and Sean Finn.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mason Cancer Benefit or Mason County EMS or Mason County Volunteer Fire Department.
