Carl James Watson, 74, of Mason, TX, passed away at his home, November 13, 2013. Carl was born January 15, 1939, in Comanche, TX, the son of Carl Edward "Jiggs" Watson and Dieletta Hickey Watson.

Carl lived most of his early life in West Texas, graduating from Midland High School in 1957. He grew up playing old time country music with family members and continued throughout his life working in music. He shared stories of playing with Roy Orbison, recording at Sun Studios in Memphis and being a guest at Elvis' Graceland. His songs were recorded by Bill Anderson and Darrell McCall and he continued writing music into his final days. Carl will also be remembered for his quick wit, and love for Colorado mountains and Jeep trails.

He excelled at a variety of jobs with his engineering and mechanical talents, including his design of the videotape "Quikdrop" for Blockbuster Video stores. The success of his design enabled him to open his own metal fabrication company, Jenco Fabricators. Carl often said he could fix anything except a broken heart.

He married Janet "Jenny" Atherton Watson in 1960 in Midland. They had three sons together, David, Daryl and Brian. After Jenny's death in 2000, he married Jackie Jamerson Dodson Watson, on October 29, 2003.

Carl was preceded in death by wife Jenny, parents C.E. and Dieletta Watson, sister Pat Gideon and granddaughter Lauren Watson.

A memorial service in honor of Carl Watson will be held on Saturday, November 16, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Mason.
