Betty Jane Steapp Kemp of Mason, TX passed away on Wednesday, December 22, 2022, at the age of 88, in the Knopp Healthcare Center in Fredericksburg. She was born on March 25, 1934, in Kerrville, Tx to William T. and Christine Tarver.

Betty is survived by her son Edward Steapp and daughter Katherine Steapp, sister-in-law and best friend Luann Hooten, several grandchildren, great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild, sister Caroline Raines of Little Elm, Tx and various nieces and nephews.

Growing up in Kerrville, going to school and then meeting her husband Dudley Steapp, they married in September 1951. Dudley entered the USAF shortly thereafter and she was a military wife for the next 20 years, living in various states and overseas.  Betty was a true homemaker, enjoying caring for her home and family. After retirement from the service, she and Dud moved to Mason in October 1973. After wandering into Grimsley's Variety Store one day to buy window shades she was hired on the spot as a clerk and ended up working there for the next 27 years, always glad to help people and never meeting a stranger. After retiring from there and then Dudley's passing, she met and married Boone Kemp and had a few years spent quietly together with him before his passing.  She led a quiet life after that taking care of her home.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, daughter, her four brothers and one sister.

A private service for Betty will be held at a later date.
