Betty Jo Kuhlmann passed away Saturday morning, April 1, 2023, in her home in Mason, Texas. She is now free from her failing health and is able to enjoy the beauty and wonders of heaven with Jesus, her Lord and Savior.

Betty Jo was born to Gladys and Judge Watson in Hatchel, Texas, March 4, 1932. She was living in San Antonio when she met Jack Evans Crouch. They soon married and resided in Mason County where Jack worked as a ranch foreman.  Times were very hard, but the young couple scrimped and saved to make the best of things. They resided on the Block House, Walker, and Centennial Springs Ranches among others. Betty worked at the Mason School Cafeteria, Anna Lee's Nursing Home, and sat with the elderly. Betty and Jack had three children, Gary, Jerry, and Susan.

Betty and Jack divorced and she later met and married Curtis Kuhlmann. They enjoyed 41 years of marriage until his death in 2014.

Betty had many interests and hobbies. Most notable were her collections of lamps, dishes, bottles, dolls, and amber jewelry. She loved flowers and cactus and shared cuttings and starts with friends and family. She had various rock and fossil specimens and clocks. One passion Betty enjoyed was reading cookbooks and trying new recipes. She especially enjoyed the various Mason County cookbooks. Garage sales brought her joy as she looked for deals and treasures. Mason County history was another interest of hers. She liked road trips and seeing the countryside.

While Betty had many things she enjoyed, none were more important than family. Betty and Curtis found great joy babysitting and spoiling grand and great grandchildren.  Parents would shake their heads when they learned their kids had ice cream for breakfast!

Betty and Curtis were always so generous with everything they had. The love and devotion they had for each other washed over to their family as well.

Two things that Betty prepared that stand out are: her famous sweet tea and her delicious spaghetti.

Mawmaw will be greatly and dearly missed but loved and cherished forever.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Gladys and Judge Watson; siblings, Mitchell, J.R., and George Watson, and Pearline Gober; and husband Curtis Kuhlmann.

Betty is survived by brothers Bobby and Leroy (Elida Ramirez) Watson, and sister Patty (Rusty) Miller; children Jerry (Lyla) Crouch and Susan Hughes, stepsons Gary (DeDe) and Corky (Jenny) Kuhlmann, stepdaughter Diane (Mark) Upchurch, sister in law Allie Kuhlmann, along with 21 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.

Betty Jo, Betty, Mom, Mawmaw -she was blessed to have an army of earthly angels who lifted her up and lightened her load. These earthly angels are Bobby Watson, Susie Hughes, Kim Williams, Beth Reardon, Darla Ferguson, and Allie "Punkie" Kuhlmann.

Visitation with the family will be held on Monday, April 10, 2023, from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the Mason Funeral Home. Funeral service will immediately follow the visitation. Interment will follow at the Gooch Cemetery.
