Barbara Jane Searcy, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2026, in Brady, Texas, surrounded by loved ones. She was 87 years old.

Born Barbara Jane Ratliff on August 6, 1938, in Blackwell, Texas, to Robert and Christine Ratliff, Barbara lived a life marked by faith, love, service, friendship, and devotion to family. Her faith in God was the foundation of her life and a guiding light through every season.

On August 18, 1956, she married the love of her life, Clarence Searcy. Together they built a beautiful life and raised their family in Mertzon, Texas, where they became cherished members of the community.

Barbara dedicated 38 years of her life to work as a cosmetologist, building lasting friendships and touching countless lives along the way. Her commitment to serving others extended beyond her profession when she proudly served as County Commissioner for 16 years. She considered it an honor to serve her community and took great pride in helping make a difference for the people she represented.

Known for her grace, elegance, and impeccable sense of style, Barbara was always dressed to the nines. She carried herself with confidence, kindness, and a genuine interest in others. A true social butterfly, she loved visiting with friends, participating in local clubs and community activities, and never met a stranger.

To her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, however, she was simply "Nan."

Nan found joy in life's simple pleasures; working her garden, taking walks, dancing, and spending time with family. She especially loved baking, the holidays were made sweeter by the treats, traditions, and memories she created in her kitchen. Family gatherings often included her famous eggnog and ice cream, a tradition that became a favorite amongst those fortunate enough to share her table. More than any title she ever held, Barbara treasured her role as wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She created a legacy of love that spans generations and will continue long after her passing.

She is survived by her children, Randy (Susan) Searcy, Christie (Johnny) Poe, and Brandon Searcy; her grandchildren, Angie (John) Luke, Whitney (Cooper) Riley, Courtney (Aaron) Rutherford, Calli (Kasey) King, James (Amanda) Shelby, Zachary Shelby, Jennifer Laborn, Jud (Tracey) Poe, Casey (Heather) Poe, Camille Sparks, Dana Malaer, her great-grandchildren, Finley Luke, Hayse and Bryce Riley, Kaylee, Tyler, and Noah Rutherford, Abigail (Tyler) Van Beber, Addison and Kayden King, Owen, Oliver and Olivia Shelby, Kia Laborn, Tiffany (Casey) Simon, Lonnie (Whitney) Williams, Jaden, Faith, and Anni Poe, Emily, Lexy, Maybree, Keldon, Brinley, and Praysley Sparks, Brantley and Natalie Outlaw, Madalynn, Bryson and Bella Malear, her great-great grandchildren, Hunter, Oakley, Baylor, Ryder, Harley, Presley, and Colson.

She is also survived by her brother, Randall (Shirley) Ratliff, nephews Russell (Jaclyn) Ratliff and Mitchell Ratliff, niece Shannon (Daniel) Bowers, great-nieces and nephews Kaylee, Brynlee, and Rylan Ratliff, Avery and Connor Bowers, her dear cousin Billie, whose lifelong friendship and love meant so much to her; and numerous extended family members and dear friends.

In keeping with Barbara's love for family, friends and fellowship, the family will gather to celebrate her life at a later date. Details regarding the Celebration of Life will be announced when arrangements are complete.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to their special caretaker, Amanda Torres, as well as Viola, Candy, Darci, Keyla and the hospice team for the compassionate care and kindness they provided to Barbara. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made in Barbara's name to Hospice of San Angelo.

The gardens she tended, the friendships she nurtured, and the family she cherished will continue to bloom for generations to come. Confident in God's promises and the hope of eternal life, her family rejoices in knowing that this is not goodbye, but until we meet again. Until that day, they find comfort in knowing Barbara is reunited with the love of her life, Clarence, dancing once again with a joyful heart and resting in the presence of the God she faithfully loved and served.
