Obituary

Barbara Ann Kothmann Pluenneke was born on October 30th, 1938, and passed from this life on Sunday, September 17, 2023, at the age of 84. She was born to Ryland Benjamin Kothmann and Evelyn Richerson Kothmann in Pearsall, Texas. Barbara was the 3rd of 6 children. She married Charles H Pluenneke on June 24th, 1961, and they were married for 55 years. Charles preceded her in death on April 26, 2016.

She was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church in Mason, Texas where she was very active in the choir and played the organ and piano for many years. She also attended and joined River of Life Fellowship Church in Mason during her later years. Barbara really enjoyed playing the organ and piano and performed at many weddings over the years.

Barbara graduated from Mason High School in 1956. She attended several universities prior to getting her degree from the University of Mexico City.

Barbara worked for Braniff Airlines for several years after graduation, and then later moved back to Mason and taught Spanish for a period of time, until beginning a full-time career as a home maker. Barbara substituted for many years in the Mason Schools when needed.

Barbara was active in many civic affairs in Mason. She co-chaired with Patsy Zesch the Main Street Project in 1985 for beautification of buildings around the downtown Mason square. She was a Sunday school teacher, and a member of the Mason Emmaus Community. Barbara was a member of the Riata Service Organization for over 30 years. She was also a volunteer for the Chamber of Commerce for many years. Barbara started the mentoring program for Mason schools and continued to mentor for many years. Barbara loved being around people. She always enjoyed being able to go to town and visit with numerous friends and acquaintances. She never met a stranger wherever she was.

Barbara is survived by her two sons, Pat Pluenneke and wife Janie of Liberty Hill, Ron Pluenneke and wife Donna of Huffman: sisters Inona Kothmann Stringer of Mason, and Sue Carol McKnight of Cincinnati, Ohio. Also, sister in laws; Joan Whitaker of Mason, and Marsha Kothmann of Mason. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren: Konrad Pluenneke of Liberty Hill, Haley DeWeerd of Grandview, Jaycie Baglietto of Castroville, Pierce Pluenneke of Huffman, and Peyton Pluenneke of Huffman. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation with the family was held Monday September 18, 2023, at Mason Funeral Home. The funeral service was Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at the River of Life Church in Mason. Interment followed in the Hilda Cemetery.
