Arthur D. Kothmann, of Mason, passed away on Thursday, June 5, at the age of 94. Visitation will be Monday morning from 9-10:30 a.m. at Mason Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held graveside at the Gooch Cemetery in Mason at 11:00 a.m. Monday morning.

Arthur D. Kothmann was born on May 22, 1920, the only child of Floyd Kothmann and Veda Bell Eaker. He grew up in Mason County, living there all his life except for a couple of years when his parents lived in Brady. His only schooling was at the Capps country school where Arthur rode his horse to every day. He was not very fond of his studies there.

Arthur's father loved to spoil him by giving him many toys. Floyd always had candy available too. Arthur's mother Veda was a good cook and taught him to cook at an early age. This love of cooking paid off as Arthur ran his own restaurant called Arthur's Country Cooking in Mason. He also worked in various restaurants making pies at the Hill Top in Mason and Isaack's in Junction. His favorite pie was an egg custard pie.

Arthur never married saying "I didn't want to make a living for anyone but me." He enjoyed traveling and often visited friends in Colorado, California and Kansas. One time he traveled to Louisiana to retrieve his El Camino truck that had been stolen.

He was proud of his Kothmann family heritage and was listed in the Family register as No. 8211. He lived in a 100 year old rock home that his parents had bought. He had a love for old and classic cars. Arthur Dee never lost his sweet tooth. He didn't care much for chocolate but he really enjoyed the Werther's Original Carmel Sweets.

Those left to cherish his memory include many friends, especially Ed Smith and Melrita Allen who helped him. He was also very fond of the Country Home Health girls and Juliana Kuhlmann who helped care for him.
