Armando Martinez,
Sr.
Feb 23, 1954 — Apr 14, 2022
Our beloved Father Armando "Sam" Martinez Sr. of Mason passed away on Thursday April 14 at the age of 68. Armando was born and raised in Mason County. A true Native as most would say. His deceased parents Gregorio and Julia Martinez also of Mason. He graduated from Mason High school where he was an outstanding football athlete. He later attended Central Texas Commercial College of Brownwood Tx, where he graduated with an Associates in Accounting. In later years he worked for Texas Parks and Wildlife as a park ranger, he then was an employee of the Eden Detention center. Armando was employed with the City of Llano for 10+ years, where he went on to retire. He worked many different jobs in his lifetime just to provide for his growing family of 7.
Anyone who knew him knew he was a golfer and had such skill. Although golf was his hobby, the game of golf was his passion. He spent many hours out on that golf course and many other golf courses throughout his lifetime. He devoted his time to teaching/ coaching his kids in hopes they would have the same love and passion for the game as he did. 3 out of 5 wasn't so bad! Remembering the joy in his face as he learned one of his grandchildren took such an interest in the game and knowing he would be there every step of the way to guide him for as long as he possibly could. His memory and legacy will live on through the game of golf. He will always be remembered as one of the greats!
He was a loving father & grandfather who adored his grandchildren and did everything he could to make them happy all the time. He is survived by his children Maria Martinez and husband Maximino Tavera, Christina Martinez, Mandy Martinez and husband Mitchell King, Sonia Martinez and husband Ernesto Mora and Armando "AJ" Martinez, Jr. and wife Alexa. A brother David Martinez and wife Maria and 10 grandchildren Michael, Cristopher, Kayden, Kaydence, Lili, Julian, Brooklyn, Matthew, Micah and Bryce.
He will be deeply missed and we know we will see him again one day.
He was preceded in death by a sister Mary Jane Luna, a brother Adolfo Martinez and a nephew Adolph Martinez, Jr.
Visitation with the family will be held on Monday April 18, from 6 to 7 pm at Mason Funeral Home. A Memorial Rosary will follow at 7:00pm. A Memorial service will be held at a later date.
Condolences may be sent to the family on-line at masonfuneralhome.net.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Mason Funeral Home.
