Alva Lee Chew Cline, of Mason, passed away on Sunday, April 11, at the age of 78. Alva Lee was born on June 17, 1932, in Mason County, to Herbert Chew and Jessie Tuckness Chew. She was raised in Mason and was a 1950 graduate of Mason High School. She attended business school in San Antonio and lived and worked in San Antonio for many years. She worked as office manager for an insurance company for over 20 years and then ran the day care program at University United Methodist Church in San Antonio. In later years as her health declined, she moved back to Mason where her aunt, Irene Metzger and cousin M.J. Metzger and wife Ella helped care for her. She was preceded in death by two husbands George Harding and William Cline and by a brother Dalmon Chew. Survivors include her sister Mabel Barrow of Junction, a sister-in-law Blanche Chew of Corsicana, four nephews Coleman Chew, Russell Chew, Lex Barrow Jr. and Lance Barrow and many cousins including M.J. Metzger and wife Ella of Mason.
Funeral services were held graveside at the Gooch Cemetery in Mason on Tuesday, April 13, at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Tim Fahrenthold officiating. Serving as pallbearers were M.J. Metzger, Gerald Tuckness, Bill Tuckness and Coleman Chew.
