Alex Howard Grosse was born February 4, 1925 on the best street in Mason, Rainey Street. His parents were Alex Egon and Alma Willmann, brother Billy Dick, and sister Jewel Grosse. He attended Mason schools and after graduating he joined the Navy. He served on the eastern U.S. coast during World War II. After a short time at Texas A & M he came back to Mason and returned to the family business, R. Grosse & Sons. He married Jacqueline Weaver and they were blessed with three children; Charlie, Nancy and Karla.
Alex loved the Lord, his family, people, the lumberyard, ranching, hunting, and his dogs. He used his blessings and talents to serve his family, his church, and the community of Mason.
Alex spent his last three years at Windcrest Nursing Home in Fredericksburg where he was loved and received great care.
Alex went to be with his Lord on January 5, 2016. He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, and wife.
He is survived by his three children and their families: Charlie and Dana, Howard and daughter Jaclyne Grosse, Nancy Jo, Danny and Calvin James Saller; Nancy and Steve, Scott, Anna, and Benton Andrews; Karla and Chuck Bearden, Kathy, Brett, Kamryn, and Trevor Loeffler.
His funeral will be held on Friday, January 8, at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Mason with burial at the Gooch Cemetery. A reception will follow at the church Social Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Mason Senior Center and the Mason Fire Department.
